head lift

Gabo might only be sixteen days old, but he’s got the strongest little neck and loves lifting his head up and looking around.

meal trains and frozen meals

Mom has been telling me to stock up on ready to go frozen meals at least a week before my due date. That way, we don't have to worry about feeding ourselves when we get back from the hospital. We'll just defrost the frozen meal, add vegetables, cook rice (or pasta if it's not included in the dish yet) and we're good. Kasi we don't have any household help yet, so this will help us a lot.

I have already compiled a list of freezer friendly meals like spaghetti, nilaga, etc. however, I haven't gotten around the cooking part yet. Tinatamad talaga ako. It would be nicer if someone would offer to set up a meal train for us, kahit sa first week lang. *wishwish*

I read about it a few days ago. It's this process of organizing meal giving by matching the special meal needs and requests of the recipient with the availability and abilities of meal givers. Visit this site for more info.

38 weeks: Ob appointment update

pregnancy weight: 55 kg
stats: still 3.5 cm dilated
belly measurement: 36 cm

Dr Grace felt around my tummy and it seems nothing is happening soon. I'm beginning to think baby Gabo is very content to keep his head right in my pelvis and stay there a few more weeks.wag naman sana.

At 38 weeks, needless to say... I'm having a horrible time. Sleep is the worst now, i can't stay long on just one side because of all the baby weight so i have to turn to the other side. but turning is a whole different chore too. Walking and sitting are also becoming unbearable. There is this constant pressure in between my legs that makes me feel like Baby Gabo's coming out any minute now. *super unlike!*

touching birthing video

i've been watching a lot of birthing videos, but this one made me cry. probably because she was surrounded by people who loves her while giving birth. i couldn't stop feeling pity for myself. i'll be all alone when the big day comes, my mom and dad is in the middle east and can't come even if they want to and my sister's away in med school. J's whole family is in NYC. so it's just J and me. *boohoo* it would've nice to be surrounded by family.

38 weeks: Ob appointment

Pregnancy weight: 55 kg
Baby Position: Head down
Stats: 3.5 cm
Bump measurement: 35 cm

So 38 week OB appointment today. I gained no weight, however baby Gabo grew a few centimeters again (35cm already!). My due date is on September 2 but I do not want baby Gabo to stay in me that long. He's really growing...FAST! even with all the diet I'm doing. Aside from the growing bump, doctor grace said everything's fantastic and it would be better if I give birth this week. Our next appointment is on Thursday. I', seriously hoping this week is THE week already!

37 weeks: OB appointment

pregnancy weight: 54 kgs
baby position: still head down
stats: still 2.5 cm dilated
belly measurement: 34 cm
ECG result: normal

there hasn't been much going on with the baby. nothing new or exciting except maybe that baby Gabo is still growing (but that's not new). Dr. Grace recommended walking to induce labor. but it's hard to take long walks now with my penguin steps. but I'll try. she told me that by Thursday next week i can give birth already! I'm excited as well as scared that it's coming to an end in a few days!

organizing for baby

we still don't have a nursery yet, so all of baby gabo's gifts were simply dumped in our bedroom. after the baby shower, it has grown to quite a pile.

I know I have to do something about the pile before the baby comes out. ASAP!so i just placed his clothes (onesies, shirts, etc), diapers, bibs, washcloths, towels, etc in this white storage case my mom got from IKEA and the rest (wipes, nasal aspirator, breast pump, milk dispenser, etc.) i placed on the baby wash tub.

I also packed most of the stuff we need for the hospital, a bag for baby gabo and another for me and J. I'll probably pack another bag for food, drinks, etc.

wanted: nanny/household help

I'm giving birth a few months from now. we have to hire someone we can trust to help me around the house and take care of the baby while J's away for work. The duties are rather simple: she'll just sweep the floors, cook food [if she knows how], do laundry and basically just accompany me to wherever. it's so hard to find one here in Cebu since we're rather new here. *sigh* I wish we can find one really soon.

36 weeks: OB appointment

Pregnancy Weight: 54 kg
Baby Position: Head down
Stats: 2.5cm dilated
Belly Measurement:32 cm
Stretch marks: a lot! *boo* I now have some on my boobs too

So, we have started our weekly OB visitation schedule. There was some blood when Dr. Grace did the internal exam but she said not to worry about it. It should stop after a day or two. She also wanted me to have an ECG.

our baby's development according to babycenter.com.ph:
Your baby is still gaining weight - about an ounce/ 28 grams a day. She weighs nearly 6 pounds/ 2.7 kilograms and is 19 inches/ 45 centimeters long from head to toe.

You may begin to feel an increased pressure in your lower abdomen and notice that your baby is gradually dropping. This is called lighteningor engagement, and your lungs and stomach will finally get a chance to stretch out a little - breathing and eating should become easier. However, walking may become increasingly uncomfortable - some women say it feels as if the baby is going to fall out. Also, you may still feel as if you need to go to the toilet all the time.

sick hubby

hubby's sick for 3 days now. last night his fever was really high. i don't know what to do. i just fed him some chicken sopas. we don't have medicines on hand and i can't go out and buy some since it's 12 midnight already and the pharmacy's a block away pa. we need to stock up on those medicines. but what do you think are the essentials?

UPDATE:
I found this wonderful and informative post by manilamommy. I better start preparing our very own "Go-bag" and first-aid kit too.

Friday, July 23, 2010

I feel fine. I get spurts of energy every now and then but I'm tired and sleepy most of the time. I still haven't done major walking. *sigh* I wish J would wake up early and walk with me like most husbands do. But I also understand he needs all the sleep he can get.

We lost our ATM cards

like all of it!

We did our weekly grocery shopping this morning. After paying, J discovered that the card holder is gone along with our ATM cards. So  we retraced our steps hoping to find it. pero wala talaga. Then I remembered, he pulled it out from his pocket when he was paying the taxi driver. We figured he must have left it there. haaaaay... I don't want to bitch about it since he already felt bad but J can be very forgetful at times. Weakness niya talaga! This is not the first time he lost something VERY important. I guess it's my fault too. I should have checked him multiple times.

Good thing, we already bought food and supplies that would last for two weeks at least and we already withdrew the payment for our place. However, we don't have extra cash on hand to use for the week! Stress talaga!

J will try to have his BDO debit card blocked and replaced tonight. Hopefully smooth lang ang process. And sana hindi gamitin ng driver yung cards namin. *fingers crossed*

34 weeks: OB appointment

Pregnancy weight gain: 30 lbs so far
Stats: 1 cm dilated

Dr. Grace says the baby's really big, around 7lbs already. She cautioned me to watch what I'm eating since it's also affecting the baby's weight, not just mine. I can't imagine my tummy getting any bigger than it already is, very few shirts cover my whole tummy now.

Weekly OB appointments starts on August 2. Hope baby's ok till then.

Love you baby..mwah!

J asked ate Neng if he can be inside the delivery room..

J: te, pwede bana sa room?
N: mag-unsa man ka didto?

hahah...sayang though. I really want him to be there since it's our first baby and just so he'll know what it's like when someone's givng birth..aaagh..the pain..

back aches

I can't sleep! After hours of tossing and turning, my back is now aching pretty badly and it's affecting my much needed sleep. I've been a stomach sleeper for years, but since i got pregnant, I was told that I have to sleep on my side. this wasn't an issue for awhile but i didn't know i would ache this much.

UPDATE:

"A new product has arrived in the world of pregnancy comfort..."

I came across this ingenious British product called The Holo - the lilo with a hole. It's just like your usual floaters and inflatable mattresses, only it has a hole where you can pop your protruding belly. I wish I discovered   this earlier, it would have ended all my sleeping problems. If you want to learn more about the product, head over to their site.

PS. this isn't a paid post. gusto ko lang i-share.

Shopping list for newborn baby

Having baby gabo is stressful enough without having to worry about what to buy in preparation for his arrival. As first time mom, I couldn't tell the difference between a necessity and a convenience item. I go into the baby section of a store and I just go gaga. I couldn't restrain myself from putting stuff on the cart, all those cute patterns and prints doesn't help either. Good thing J is always with me, he does all the restraining.

So to help us keep track with the shopping, we came up with this list (which is just a compilation of checklists we found online).

CLOTHING
  • infant shirts
  • onesies
  • booties/socks
  • mittens
  • hat/cap
  • receiving blankets

  • nursing cover
  • burp cloths/lampin
  • bibs
  • bottle and nipple brush
  • sterilizer
  • feeding bottles

  • breast pump
  • milk dispenser
SLEEPING

  • fitted sheets
  • pillow
  • bolster
  • blanket/quilt
  • mosquito net
  • swaddling blanket
DIAPERING
me and J decided to use disposable diapers muna for the first few weeks after giving birth before switching to cloth diapers
  • disposable diapers

oral glucose challenge test

So, I had my glucose test today at the CUPSI Lab. I braced myself for the worst after hearing and reading the horror stories about how awful the drink tastes. It's actually not that bad at all. It actually tastes like Royal - that orange soft drink. I felt dizzy afterwards though, since it's the only thing I took since last night. We had to wait for another hour before they could take  my blood sample and I was still not allowed to drink and eat anything. We got the result two hours later.

FBS and OGCT Result:

No gestational diabetes for me! Hooray!

baby bump

That dark vertical line you see is my Linea Nigra, which is a pregnancy trademark that shows up to almost all moms-to-be.

Linea nigra normally starts appearing during the 2nd trimester, and may last for several months after your baby is born. For some women the line will never completely go away. some doctors believe that there may be a connection between a woman's insulin level and her getting linea nigra, or even not getting enough folic acid.

Linea nigra has a myth associated with it as well. It is an old wives tale that if the linea nigra stops at the belly button, the woman is having a girl, and if it goes all the way to the bottom of the rib cage then the woman is having a boy. (My line stops just a few inches above my belly button, so baby boy talaga!)

29 weeks: OB appointment

So I'm 29 weeks and 3 days today. Me and J had our monthly OB appointment. The baby's ok, however, he's too large. Dr Grace wants me to have an OGCT and FBS test to check if i have gestational diabetes. Just hearing the word diabetes makes me really worry. I have to cut out my carbs in take and exercise often. So goodbye muna to ice cream and choco balls.

our baby's progress according to babycenter.com.ph:
Your baby now weighs around 2.5 pounds/ 1.1 kilograms and measures about 15 inches/ 38 centimeters from head to toe. In boys, testicles descend from near the kidneys through the groin en route to the scrotum. In girls, the clitoris is relatively prominent because it's not yet covered by the still-small labia. These will grow to cover it in the last few weeks before birth.

Your baby's head is getting bigger, and brain growth is very rapid at this time. Nearly all babies react to sound by 30 weeks.

the dreaded marks are here

Yes, my stretch marks. Marks I've always thought I won't have since I've been diligently applying lotion and moisturizers on my belly from day one. They were just underneath my belly all this time that's why I couldn't see them. Great!

maternity clothes

NONE of my clothes fit anymore or at least they couldn't cover my belly. This is ridiculous. Maternity clothes are too expensive. I've been getting by with large shirts mostly J's house shirts. Now those are starting to get tight too. I don't want to splurge on new clothes since I'll be using them only once. What to do?

swaddling

Swaddling is the practice of wrapping infants snugly in cloths or blankets so that movement of the limbs is tightly restricted and it also lowers the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

I never knew what swaddling is until my mom got me a SwaddleMe by Kiddopotamus. She bought me the blue one. I can't wait to wrap baby Gabo like a small burrito using this. *weee*

on pee

i was told that being pregnant means peeing on a regular basis but wetting my pants is just too much. it's really embarrassing. good thing this isn't happening to me in public yet.

first ultrasound

All those weeks of guessing and wonder is finally over. We just confirmed we're having a baby boy! I was sad for a minute because I've been secretly wishing I'd be a girl, but a baby boy is great just the same.

I was anxious during the procedure because the machine wasn't reading anything. They had to restart the machine a few times before they got a picture. Then they started measuring this and that. I didn't really understand anything they were saying but doctor grace said the baby's healthy and she seemed happy with what she's seeing so I guess everything's great. It's really a relief to know that the baby's complete [2 hands, 2 feet, head, genitals intact, etc]. I was really worried he would have some birth defect since I only started prenatal vitamins and milk when I was 5 months pregnant. So thank God.

The ultrasound by the way only costs Php600 plus doctor fee of Php150 so our total fee was only Php750. This came as a surprise since we expected at least Php1500. So again, thank God!
